MIST
What is MIST?
The Muslim Interscholastic Tournament of Atlanta (MIST) is a fun, educational, interactive program of competitions and workshops designed to bring Muslim and non-Muslim high school students together from around the nation to develop leadership, communication, and other creative skills in order to develop a strong personal identity. Their mission is "to unite high school students together in order to create a growing environment in which leadership, communication, and creative skills are developed all while gaining a more intellectual understanding of Islam."
The Honor of Humility: Discovering Dignity in Challenging Pride
Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, once said, "…no one humbles themselves for the sake of God except that God raises their status” (Muslim).
In the age of social media, flaunting our lives online can be a source of success. Even when we intend to spread positivity through gaining popularity, we may see humility as an obstacle to that goal. How do we inculcate the virtue of humility when it seemingly brings us down? If we've learned that humility is a weakness, then this shortsighted understanding veils us from its possible hidden strength.
It’s easy to fall prey to our pride. To gain more esteem in the eyes of others, we may follow celebrities who tell us what to buy or how to act. We may look at what others possess and compete with one another to project a lifestyle of success. Is our dignity found in the validation of others, or do we find it on our own terms?
Does humility require shunning the world in order to be humble and find our dignity? Not necessarily, according to prophetic teachings. For example, after Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, told his companions that “no one who has even a seed of arrogance in their heart will enter paradise,” a man objected saying, “I love to have beautiful clothes and shoes.” The Prophet, peace be upon him, alleviated the man’s concerns by replying, “God is beautiful, and He loves beauty. Arrogance means rejecting the truth and looking down on people” (Muslim).
The struggle for humility can be challenging, confusing, and even paradoxical, but it can yield amazing results. We encourage you to creatively explore these concepts, and more, in Regional and National competitions and workshops during MIST 2019. Remember that unique projects displaying creativity and insight will be judged most favorably.

REGISTRATION
Step by Step Registration
Coaches, Guests, and Competitors alike must all go through the following process!
Once you have signed into your MIST account you will notice a task chart on the bottom under the My Tasks heading. Again, this chart will differ depending on your role on the team (Competitor, Registrar, or Coach). As you complete each task, the red “x” under the completed? column of the chart will become a green “check”. To complete each task you can click on the task name.
There are various tabs at the top of each page. The “Home” tab will return you to the task chart. The “Team” tab will allow you to see all individuals registered for your team. The “Registration” tab will give Competitors a summary of the competitions which they are signed up for.
Step 1
Creating a MIST Account Username
To register for a MIST tournament each individual on the team and the Coach must create a MIST username at https://web.adderpit.com/MIST. In order to create a username you must have a unique valid, working email address. Only one username can be created per email address. Once you have submitted your request for a username, an email will automatically be sent to you to confirm your request and give you a password. You will be able to use the same username each year to sign up for tournaments.
Step 2
Joining the Milton High School Team
Once the team has been created and all team members and the Coach have been invited, the next step is for all invited individuals to create a username, if they have not yet done so, and join the team. This can be done by clicking the task Join a Team under the task chart. Registrars need to approve or deny each individual who joins the team. Click on the “Teams” tab on the top of the page. Here you will be able to view any pending applications. Once the green check appears next to this task on the task chart this step has been completed.
Step 3
Registering for Competitions!
Once you have joined the team, it is time to register for your competitions. (If you are not a competitor, you must be registered as a guest through your Registrar.) You can register for competitions by clicking on the task Register for Competitions under the task chart. Pick the competitions you will be competing in by choosing them from the appropriate drop down menu. Remember that only two individuals per team can compete in any given competition other than group projects and MIST Bowl. After two individuals have signed up for a competition from your team, the system will not allow you to register for that competition. You may make changes to the competitions you are signed up for up until the team registration is sent to the Coach for approval by the Registrar. Remember, you can only sign up for one competition per bracket.
Step 4
Paying the Registration Fee
It is extremely important that all Competitors pay their registration fees in a timely manner. Remember, if you are bringing any Guests, you must pay for their fee at the same time you pay for yours. To pay your fee, click on Pay Registration Fees under the task chart. You can pay online by check or credit card. You do not need a Paypal account yourself to register. However, if you do have an existing account, you can choose to pay through it. Please note that until all Competitors have paid for their fees, the registration process can go no further. By not paying your fee, you could hold up your team’s registration from being approved and therefore cause it to be late. Again, students should check with their teams or Regional Registration Chair to see if other payment options or arrangements are available.
